Five teenagers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a one-car crash in the Peak District in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called to reports of the collision on the A5270 Old Coalpit Lane, near its junction with the A515 near Buxton, at 2.10am on Saturday 7 November. The crash involved a blue Suzuki Swift carrying five people: three teenage girls and two teenage boys.

All five were taken to hospital with injuries described as serious, which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time. No further details about their conditions have been released.

Old Coalpit Lane remained closed on Saturday afternoon from the junction of the A515 to The Ditch in Chelmorton, while officers carried out enquiries at the scene. The closure was still in place as of 3pm.

Derbyshire Constabulary is appealing for witnesses and is keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time and saw the Suzuki before the collision. Officers have asked anyone with information to contact the force through its website or Facebook page, or by calling 101 and quoting reference 26000688247.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The force has not said what caused the car to crash, and the investigation into the collision is continuing. Further updates are expected once officers have established the full circumstances of what happened on the road in the early hours of Saturday.
