Former Teacher Jailed for 25 Years After Grooming Girls Online in Fake Teenage Persona

A former maths teacher who posed online as a teenage boy to groom schoolgirls has been jailed for 25 years, after being convicted of 37 further child sexual abuse offences.
Syed Shahreear Ahmed, 37, of Mossford Lane, Barkingside, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday 5 November. He was already serving a 15-year term for earlier child sex offences, and the new 10-year sentence will run consecutively, taking his total to 25 years, with a further eight years on extended licence.
Ahmed used fake online identities and altered photographs to present himself as a 17-year-old boy called Miles, contacting girls aged 13 to 16 on social media apps including Wizz, Yubo and Snapchat. He groomed them online before arranging meetings and sexually abusing them. The 37 offences included rape, sexual assault, sexual communication with a child and meeting a child following grooming.
Twelve more victims found in phone data
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation team uncovered 12 further victims while examining hundreds of gigabytes of material from Ahmed's mobile phones. In total he has now been convicted of 56 child sexual abuse offences involving 18 victims, including 10 counts of rape.
He was found guilty on 10 July following a second trial at Southwark Crown Court. He had earlier been convicted in 2025 of 14 child sexual abuse offences. The judge, Judge Perrins, said Ahmed remained a danger to the public and that he would have imposed a life sentence if all the offences had been dealt with at the same time.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kelleher, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said Ahmed's behaviour was all the more shocking because he was a teacher trained in safeguarding children. Police are appealing for any further victims to come forward.
