Gaza Death Toll Reaches 74,540 Since October 2023, Health Ministry Says

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported on Saturday, 25 October, that the death toll from Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023 had reached 74,540, with 175,678 people wounded. The figures were carried by ABNA in its daily report from the ministry and are consistent with a slightly earlier toll of at least 74,480 reported in other coverage of the same ministry data.
The latest 48 hours
In its daily report, the ministry said hospitals received eight civilian bodies and 62 wounded people over the past 48 hours, while another person succumbed to injuries sustained in a previous attack. Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on 10 October 2025, at least 1,547 Palestinians have been killed and 5,559 others injured, according to the ministry’s updated count. Reuters, reporting on 20 October, had put the post-ceasefire toll at at least 1,500 killed, with Israel saying four of its soldiers had been killed by militants in Gaza over the same period.
Destruction on a vast scale
The United Nations has said about 82 percent of structures in Gaza, roughly 200,000 buildings, have been damaged, with about two-thirds destroyed since the start of the war. Recovery of bodies from rubble continues long after strikes.
A ceasefire under strain
The toll has risen despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States a year ago. Little progress has been made on those longer-term terms, according to Reuters, while both sides accuse each other of violating the agreement. Israel says Hamas has been rearming and launching attacks; Hamas denies trying to carry out attacks or rebuild its arsenal and accuses Israel of undermining the peace deal.
