Glasgow Hydro Brawl: Two Charged, Three Officers Hurt

Two men have been charged after a brawl outside the OVO Hydro in Glasgow left three police officers injured, two of them needing medical treatment. The disturbance broke out in Congress Road at about 11.10pm on Saturday, shortly after a bare-knuckle fighting event at the arena ended.
Police Scotland said the two men, aged 32 and 27, had been arrested and charged with offences including assault, obstructing police and threatening and abusive behaviour. They are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday 9 November. A third man was arrested and issued with a recorded police warning. More than 20 police vehicles converged on the area, Glasgow News.
Thousands had gathered earlier for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event, the promotion's first in Scotland. In the headline bout, Sean Weir of Wishaw beat Leigh Cohoon of Manchester in the first round after the referee stopped the fight. Footage on social media showed groups of men fighting in the street outside the venue.
Chief Inspector Paul Daley said several officers had been assaulted while carrying out their duties. "Violence against officers is disgraceful and will not be tolerated," he said. "Being assaulted is not part of the job and it's extremely fortunate they were not seriously injured." Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting incident 2029 of 7 November, according to Hello Rayo.
Glasgow councillor Paul Carey has since raised safety concerns about the event, saying constituents reported fighting and a large police presence and felt unsafe in the area. He has formally asked the Scottish Events Campus for details of its planning, risk assessments and security arrangements, and raised concerns about pressure on Police Scotland and on ScotRail staff and passengers at Exhibition Centre station, as reported by the Glasgow Times.
