Gold traded at $3,996.30 per troy ounce on Sunday 25 October 2026, holding just below the $4,000 mark after closing Friday at $3,995.81, down 0.71% from $4,024.51 at the previous close. At the spot price, one gram costs about $128.48 and a one-kilogram bar about $128,484, while in sterling terms gold traded at roughly £2,989 an ounce. Gold is down 4.1% over the past week and 8.5% so far in 2026, and sits 26.1% below the all-time closing high of $5,405 set on 29 January 2026.

Other precious metals

Silver fell 1.27% to $53.90, platinum fell 1.02% to $1,550.50, and palladium fell 0.98% to $1,042.10 at Friday's close. The gold-silver ratio stood at 74.1, meaning one ounce of gold bought 74.1 ounces of silver. The metals complex has been pulled in two directions: geopolitical tension in the Middle East would normally support safe-haven buying, but a firmer US dollar and high bond yields have weighed on prices, with the US 10-year yield near 5%. Sunday's spot quote and Friday's close are different measures and should not be mixed: the close is the settled end-of-week figure, while spot moves continuously.

What to watch next

Traders will watch the US Federal Reserve's meeting on 27-28 October, where policymakers are expected to hold rates while signalling on a possible December move, and any fresh headlines from the Gulf, which can swing both oil and gold within hours. For UK buyers, the sterling gold price also depends on the pound-dollar rate, currently around $1.34 to the pound. This is market reporting, not investment advice, and retail bars and coins typically trade at a premium to the spot price quoted here.
