Humphries wins darts title despite food poisoning

Luke Humphries beat Niels Zonneveld 8-4 in the final of Players Championship 33 on Wednesday 4 November at the Mattioli Arena, Leicester, winning his fourth Players Championship title of 2026 despite food poisoning that cost him over a stone in weight.
Humphries, the world No 3, said he had been very ill for the last two weeks, had not practised for two weeks, and had lost 15 pounds in eight or nine days. He had been forced to pull out of the European Championship last month. He still won the title, saying the win was unexpected given how he had felt, and that it showed his game was still there.
Route to the title
Humphries beat Steve Lennon and Gerwyn Price 6-2 each, then beat Gary Anderson 7-4 in the semi-final, defying a 106.75 average from Anderson. In the final he produced a brace of 12-dart breaks to seize the initiative against Zonneveld, before capping a classy display with an 11-dart hold and a 103.77 average. Zonneveld reached the final by beating Michael van Gerwen 7-5 in the other semi-final.
Raymond van Barneveld took a huge step towards World Championship qualification with a run to his second ProTour quarter-final of 2026, losing 6-3 to Anderson. The Players Championship Finals take place at Butlins, Minehead, from 27 to 29 November.
