Netherlands cruise past Oman by seven wickets in Dubai

Netherlands beat Oman by seven wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 in Dubai on 2 November, chasing down a target of 183 with 14 overs to spare. Oman were bowled out for 182 in 49.2 overs at the ICC Academy, and Netherlands finished on 183 for three in 36 overs.

The chase was anchored by Cedric de Lange, who top-scored with 79 from 107 balls, including eight fours. He shared the scoring load with Zach Lion Cachet, who made 68 from 75 balls with six fours, as Netherlands kept the required rate comfortably under control.

Early wicket, then control

Max O Dowd made 29 from 29 balls before falling to Nadeem Khan, who finished with one wicket for 38 runs from nine overs and was the only Oman bowler to take a wicket. De Lange and Lion Cachet then took the game away from Oman, before both were run out in the closing stages of the chase.

Captain Scott Edwards finished unbeaten on two and Colin Ackermann on one, as Netherlands crossed the line with seven wickets in hand. Shakeel Ahmed was the most economical Oman bowler, conceding 44 runs from his 10 overs without taking a wicket.

What the result means

The win was completed with plenty of time to spare in a 50-over contest, reflecting how comfortably Netherlands handled a modest target after bowling Oman out just short of their full allocation. Oman innings never built the platform for a bigger total, and their bowlers could not apply sustained pressure once de Lange and Lion Cachet were set.

League 2 counts towards Cricket World Cup qualification, and Netherlands will take confidence from a chase built on two substantial innings.
