Jeje Odongo survives Soroti crash as girl, 15, dies

Uganda's former foreign affairs minister, retired General Jeje Odongo, has survived a road crash in Soroti City that killed a 15-year-old girl. The accident happened on Saturday evening along the Soroti-Lira Highway, near Arapai Ginnery, as the general travelled home to Orungo in Amuria District.
According to his personal assistant, Pius Elubu, the girl was riding a bicycle and entered the road shortly after the general's lead vehicle had passed. The driver tried to avoid her, but the vehicle overturned. The girl died at the scene, and her identity had not yet been established when the reports were published.
Odongo, who represents Orungo County in Parliament, suffered minor injuries, including an injury to his ear and bruises on one of his legs. His driver and a bodyguard were also hurt, and all three occupants were taken to Doctors Plaza Hospital in Soroti City for first aid and medical attention.
Police had not yet issued an official statement on the circumstances of the crash by the time the reports were published. Odongo served as Uganda's foreign minister and as a former army commander before returning to Parliament as the member for Orungo County. He previously served as the country's internal affairs minister.
