Jersey Airport drones halt flights for second night

Flights into Jersey Airport were disrupted for a second night running after further drone activity was reported near the airfield on Saturday evening, 31 October 2026. Jersey Airport said at 8.05pm that inbound flights were being affected, and later confirmed that four flights were unable to land as scheduled.
Services from Heathrow and Southampton were among those cancelled, and airlines were arranging alternative travel for affected passengers. People due to travel on Sunday morning were advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information before heading to the airport.
Disruption on two consecutive nights
The Saturday disruption followed similar problems on Friday evening, 30 October, when three inbound aircraft were initially diverted after drones were reported in restricted airspace. One of those aircraft later landed in Jersey, while the Heathrow and Southampton services were cancelled.
States of Jersey Police said the first report on Friday came in at about 8.20pm, with reported activity continuing until about 10.30pm. Searches were carried out in the west of the island, but no operator had been identified in reports published on Saturday.
Police investigation and official response
Police believe two or three drones entered restricted airspace on Friday, and the incidents were not thought to be linked to terrorism, according to reports of the police briefing. The public were asked to share sightings, footage or other information that could help identify those responsible.
Jersey's Chief Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham, described the operation of drones near the airport over the two evenings as deliberate and unlawful, and said the government was working with UK authorities and specialist agencies on detection and counter-drone support. Flying a drone in an airport restricted zone without permission is illegal.
