LHC seeks reports on detention of Imran Khan's sisters

The Lahore High Court on Monday 2 November heard pleas challenging the extended detention of the three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, and sought reports from officials on the detention orders, on Noreen Niazi's health, and on whether the family has been allowed access.
The hearing was before Justice Abher Gul Khan. The three women — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi — have been held since September under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960.
How the detention unfolded
Aleema Khan was detained on 20 September in Lahore and taken to Kot Lakhpat jail. Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained the next day, on police recommendation, ahead of a planned PTI protest march on Islamabad demanding Imran Khan's release.
The first 30-day orders were due to expire on 19 October for Aleema Khan and 20 October for the other two. The Punjab government later told the court the detention had been extended by a further 30 days, approved on 7 October after a Lahore deputy commissioner proposal.
Health concerns and the petitions
Noreen Niazi, 70, was admitted to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore last week after her health deteriorated in custody, her lawyer Rana Mudassar Umer said.
The petitions were filed by Shahrez Khan, Aleema Khan's son, and by Noreen Niazi's daughter Sakeena. Counsel argues the extensions are unlawful.
Detention under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance is preventive: no criminal charge is required and no trial follows from the order itself. The court has not ordered the women's release. One report of the hearing mentioned a 2pm return time for the reports; the other source gives no return date, so no deadline is stated here as settled.
