London Fog Warning for Monday Morning Travel

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for fog across London and most of England and Wales, with difficult travel conditions and possible delays expected on Monday morning. The warning, issued at 9:58am on Sunday 8 November, runs from 6pm on Sunday until 11am on Monday.

Fog patches will form readily during Sunday evening and overnight, becoming extensive by Monday morning, according to the Met Office. Some dense patches are expected, with visibility falling to around 50 metres or less in the worst-affected places. The fog should thin slowly later on Monday morning.

The warning covers Greater London and large parts of the country, including the East Midlands, East of England, the North West, the South West, Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber. The Met Office rates the impact as moderate and the likelihood as high, at between 50 and 75 per cent.

Monday in London is otherwise expected to stay mostly dry, with partly cloudy skies and a high of around 11C, though it will feel colder in the easterly breeze. Forecasters say the fog is part of a settled, chilly spell following the wet and windy weather brought by Storms Austen and Boelo in late October.

Drivers are advised to check the latest Met Office warnings before setting off, allow extra time for journeys, and use dipped headlights and keep a safe distance in fog. Rail and air passengers should check with their operator before travelling, as delays are possible while the fog is at its densest.
