Manchester United Job Cuts: Up to 200 Roles at Risk

Manchester United plan to make between 150 and 200 staff redundant in a second round of job cuts, the club has confirmed, as it tries to return to profitability after five consecutive years of losses. The roles would be in addition to the 250 removed last year under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos.
The club announced the plan to staff at Old Trafford this week as part of a transformation of its corporate structure. In a statement, the club said it was taking “additional measures to improve the club’s financial sustainability and enhance operational efficiency”, adding that the plan “aims to return the club to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019”.
Consultation under way
The redundancies are subject to a consultation process with employees, and the club said the measures would create “a more solid financial platform from which the club can invest in men’s and women’s football success and improved infrastructure”. Chief executive Omar Berrada told staff: “We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams. We are initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew the club. Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues.”
Manager Ruben Amorim has linked the cuts to results on the pitch, saying the redundancy announcement has “a lot to do with the lack of success of the football team”. The club has also been cutting other costs, including scaling back free lunches for staff and reducing its London presence, as Ratcliffe’s Ineos group reshapes the club’s operations.
