The Metropolitan Police Service is recruiting new constables through three entry routes, with applications for all three closing at 23:55 GMT on Monday, 30 November 2026.

The three routes listed on the Met's official careers board are the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, the Detective Constable Entry Programme and the Police Constable Entry Programme. The degree apprenticeship lets recruits train for a policing degree while working as a constable, the detective programme is the direct route into detective work, and the constable programme is the standard entry route for uniformed constables.

The Met says there are countless roles that help keep London safe, from frontline constables, detective constables and police community support officers to staff working behind the scenes. Its careers pages invite applicants from all backgrounds and with a wide range of skills and experience.

The closing date applies to the September 2026 intake of each of the three programmes. Candidates should apply through the Metropolitan Police careers site, where each vacancy is listed with its full description and eligibility requirements.

The Met is also recruiting for a range of other roles with closing dates through November and December. That includes a security officer post closing on 19 November, a learning content development manager closing on 20 November, and claims handler and police staff investigator roles closing on 17 November.

Volunteers can also apply to become a special constable, with applications for the current intake closing on 31 December 2026. Special constables are volunteer police officers who give their time alongside their day jobs.

Anyone interested in the constable entry routes should apply before the 30 November deadline, as the Met's careers board lists the closing time as 23:55 GMT and late applications are not accepted.
