NHS urges eligible people to book flu and COVID jabs before 14 December deadline

The NHS is urging people who are eligible for flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to come forward and “get winter strong”, with bookings available until 14 December for those eligible to book. The message comes as colder weather arrives and flu and COVID-19 are expected to peak over the festive and new year season.
Who is eligible
Eligibility for the 2026/27 programme includes pregnant women, adults aged 65 and over, people aged 2 to under 65 in a clinical risk group — including those with respiratory conditions, diabetes, heart, kidney or liver disease, neurological conditions or a weakened immune system — as well as carers, close contacts of immunocompromised people, care home residents and frontline social care workers. Children aged 2 or 3 are also eligible for the flu vaccine, and people experiencing homelessness are included for the first time.
How to book
Eligible people can book using the NHS online booking system, the NHS App or by calling 119, and do not have to wait for an invitation. Some people may be vaccinated through their maternity service, care home or employer if they are a frontline health or social care worker. Vaccinations will still be available after 14 December, up until 31 March, by contacting a GP surgery or at some pharmacies — but the NHS message is to book now, ahead of the winter peak.
Why it matters
Flu and COVID-19 can make some people very unwell, particularly older people and those with long-term conditions. Anyone unsure about eligibility should check the NHS website or ask their GP or pharmacy — this article gives general information only, not personal medical advice.
