NUST chip spin-off lands Rs50m seed funding

Correction: This article originally said NUST announced this investment on 28 October. The announcement was published by NUST SEECS on 25 October 2026, and this site already covered the same deal on 25 October. The date is corrected here; the rest of the article is unchanged.
ChipXPRT, a spin-off from NUST's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has secured a PKR 50 million seed investment from Matracon Pakistan Private Limited, NUST announced. The signing ceremony was held at the National Science and Technology Park at NUST, with the university's principal, Matracon representatives and Senator Sir Abdul Qadir in attendance.
ChipXPRT builds chip design solutions and aims to push Pakistan's semiconductor design capability, an area where domestic firms remain scarce despite growing demand for custom silicon in electronics, telecoms and defence. NUST said the partnership brings the spin-off closer to delivering top-tier chip designs and making a real impact in the industry, and thanked Matracon for its belief in the team's vision.
Why a university spin-off matters
University spin-offs are one of the few routes by which research in chip design reaches the market in Pakistan, where fabrication is done overseas and design work is the accessible entry point. A seed round of this size funds engineering hires and design-tool access rather than a fabrication plant, and its test will be whether ChipXPRT converts the investment into signed design work. NUST did not disclose a valuation or a product timeline in its announcement. Sources: NUST SEECS.
