Oxford seeks two AI verification researchers, closes 9 Nov

The University of Oxford is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers to work on AI verification at its Oxford Martin School, with applications closing at noon on Monday 9 November 2026. The roles sit with the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, which studies how advanced artificial intelligence can be governed. The researchers will investigate technical and political approaches to verifying that computational rules are followed in AI data centres.
What the roles involve
The project aims to identify verification methods that are practical, privacy-preserving and resistant to attack, and that could one day support international agreements on AI. The researchers will publish academic papers and policy reports, help shape the project's research agenda and supervise research assistants day to day. The senior post carries an independent research agenda and a larger role in setting the project's strategic direction, as well as building relationships with government, industry and civil society.
Pay, terms and who should apply
Postdoctoral Researcher post is full-time and fixed-term for two years at Research Grade 7, paying £40,178 to £48,700 a year. The senior post is also full-time and fixed-term for two years, at Research Grade 8, paying £50,067 to £59,396 a year. Candidates need doctoral-level or equivalent expertise in a technical area of artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, and the school says practical or policy experience in technology policy, arms control or AI governance would be an advantage.
How to apply
Applications must be received before 12:00 noon UK time on 9 November 2026, through the University of Oxford's recruitment system linked from the Oxford Martin School vacancies page.
