Iran envoy: Pakistan's E-Form changes, not Iranian restrictions, disrupted border trade

Iran's ambassador to Pakistan has said disruption to cross-border trade was caused by changes to Pakistan's E-Form import procedure, not by any Iranian restriction on exports. Reza Amiri Moghadam said on Sunday that there are currently no restrictions on the Iranian side on the export of goods to Pakistan, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

What the envoy said

In a post on X, the ambassador said Iran's borders with all its neighbours remain open, and that it would be "neither logical nor in the interests of either side" for Iran to close its borders to its neighbours, particularly Pakistan. He blamed "changes in the implementation of Pakistan's E-Form procedure for imports from Iran", which he said had left traders "effectively and literally unable to dispatch cargo from Iran to Pakistan". Consultations with the Pakistani side are underway, he added.

Border reopening

Pakistan's Dawn newspaper reported on Sunday that the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing (Gate 250) in Gwadar reopened a day earlier, ending a week-long suspension that began on 17 October, after Pakistan reviewed the security situation. Several hundred trucks carrying LPG have crossed the Rimdan border into Gabd, but many have yet to be unloaded or cleared, further complicating trade flows. The envoy's clarification follows reports that had suggested Iran had reduced LPG exports to Pakistan.
