Pakistan Fixes Wheat at Rs4,500 in First National Policy

Pakistan has fixed the wheat support price at Rs4,500 per maund (40 kg) for the 2027 crop season, Rs1,000 above last year's Rs3,500. The announcement was made in Islamabad on 26 October 2026 by Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, alongside Pakistan Kissan Ittehad president Khalid Mahmood Khokhar.
A price rise of Rs1,000
The price is part of what is described as the first comprehensive national wheat policy in nearly four decades, agreed after consultation and consensus with all provincial governments. Strategic wheat reserves of up to 6 million metric tonnes are to be maintained this year to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Reserves and releases
More than 1.3 million tonnes have already been released to provinces from PASSCO stocks, and imports of up to 550,000 tonnes may be arranged depending on provincial need. The minister ruled out a wheat shortage this year and said recent price rises were artificial, blaming manipulation, with action promised against speculative practices.
The policy sets a national framework for a crop that sits at the centre of food prices and farm incomes. Its test will be whether the agreed price, reserves and provincial releases hold through the 2027 season.
