Pakistan beat Oman to win Hong Kong Sixes Plate title

Pakistan beat Oman by 18 runs in the Plate final of the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 on Sunday, claiming the second-tier title after their defence of the main championship had ended in the group stage. The final was played at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, and the win left the six-time champions fifth overall in the tournament standings.
Pakistan had arrived as defending champions, having won the main Cup in 2025. They finished second in Group C behind the United Arab Emirates, so they dropped into the Plate competition, then beat hosts Hong Kong in the semi-final to reach the final against Oman.
Afridi leads from the front
Batting first, Pakistan posted 154 for 4 in their six overs, with captain Abbas Afridi leading the way with an unbeaten 73 off just 16 balls, including one four and 11 sixes. Afridi retired before returning to the crease in the final over, as Pakistan set Oman a target of 155.
Oman made a strong start in reply through Usman Ali and Zohaib Amanat, but finished on 136 for 4 from their six overs. Usman top-scored with 67 off 17 balls, while Amanat struck 61 off 18 deliveries, and Oman ultimately fell 18 runs short.
A consolation title, not a defence
The Plate title is a consolation, not a successful defence: Pakistan could not reach the main Cup semi-finals, which only group winners contested, and Afghanistan went on to win the main Cup title. For Pakistan, the Plate win still salvaged a trophy from a tournament that began with defeat to the UAE, and it was built on Afridi's explosive batting at the top of the order.
