Perplexity Teammates Bring Always-On AI Agents to Max

Perplexity has launched Teammates, a new kind of AI agent that takes ownership of ongoing work rather than waiting for the next prompt. The feature was announced in a blog post dated 4 November 2026 and is available now as a research preview for individual Max subscribers on the web, with an iOS version promised soon.

Unlike a standard chatbot, a teammate is given a standing responsibility, such as triaging an inbox, tracking competitors or managing a support queue. It plans the work, runs tasks in parallel, coordinates with other teammates and brings results back for review. Teammates are built on Perplexity Computer, the company's agent platform, so they can use the same tools, files, connectors and memory a user already has set up, and they can message co-workers in Slack when something needs attention.

Each teammate remembers project goals, task history and shared files across runs, and can watch connected tools such as GitHub and Linear, starting work when something changes. New teammates use Claude Opus 5.5 by default, although users can choose a different model for each agent.

Access is the catch. Teammates are limited to the Max plan, which costs $200 a month, or $2,000 a year when billed annually. Free and Pro subscribers must upgrade, and enterprise accounts are not included by default. Usage draws on the Max plan's monthly credit allocation, and Perplexity says the feature is still under development, so its behaviour may change. The same November update also made Computer run fully on Apple-silicon Macs and added a voice mode.
