Petrol Price Cut by Rs6.59 a Litre as Diesel Falls Rs4.25 in Pakistan

The federal government has cut fuel prices again, bringing petrol down by Rs6.59 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs4.25 per litre, in a move that takes effect from Saturday, 7 November.

Petrol will now sell at Rs346 per litre, down from Rs352.59, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs378 per litre, down from Rs382.25, according to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The revised prices will remain in force from 7 to 9 November.

Relief at the pump

The latest cut continues a run of reductions in recent weeks. Earlier in the week, petrol had already fallen by Rs9.41 per litre and diesel by Rs5.56, taking petrol from Rs362 to Rs352.59 before Friday's fresh notification.

Falling international oil prices have driven the latest round of relief. Reporting on the weekly trend put the total fall in petrol at Rs31.91 per litre since 31 October, when the price stood near Rs378, with diesel down Rs24.96 over the same period.

What motorists will pay

For a motorist filling a 40-litre tank, the latest petrol cut saves about Rs264 compared with the previous rate. Transporters and goods carriers, who run largely on diesel, will also see lower running costs.

Taxes still make up a large share

Despite the cuts, taxes and duties remain a heavy part of the pump price. Reports put the tax burden at about Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel, meaning roughly a third of what drivers pay at the pump goes to the exchequer rather than to the fuel itself.

The government has also confirmed that its targeted Rs100-per-litre Sasta Petrol discount for small vehicles will continue through at least 31 December 2026.
