Punjab Approves 1,629 Headmaster Posts for Schools

The Punjab Finance Department has approved the creation of 1,629 new posts of headmaster, headmistress, senior headmaster and senior headmistress in government schools across the province. The approval, issued on 4 November 2026, covers schools in 40 districts and follows a request from the School Education Department dated 23 October 2026.

The breakdown is 654 headmasters, 748 headmistresses, 177 senior headmasters and 50 senior headmistresses. The new posts replace 1,629 earlier posts in the regular pay scales that have been abolished: the headmaster and headmistress posts were previously in BS-17, and the senior posts in BS-18. Instead, the new posts will be filled on a lump-sum pay package, with the cost met from the Provincial Finance Commission share of each District Education Authority.

The Finance Department letter also sets out the next steps before anyone can apply. The School Education Department has been asked to approach the Contract Appointment Regularisation Committee to finalise the formal eligibility rules, after which a selection board headed by the Chief Secretary will recommend the lump-sum salary figures for final sign-off by the Chief Minister.

That means this is an approval, not a recruitment advertisement. No application form, website link, age limit, qualification list or closing date has been announced, and the salary figure has not been fixed. Headmaster posts in Punjab have previously been filled through the Punjab Public Service Commission, and reports expect the same route here, but the notification itself names no testing agency and no date. Candidates should wait for the official advertisement and should not pay anyone who claims to offer an application route before it appears.
