Siemens Completes MERMEC Rail Deal, Adding 1,700 Staff and €430m Revenue

Siemens has completed its acquisition of key businesses of Italian rail technology group MERMEC, after receiving all required regulatory approvals.
The acquired businesses, which employ about 1,700 people and serve customers in more than 70 countries, are now part of Siemens Mobility. They generated revenue of approximately €430 million in the 2025 financial year. Financial terms of the deal, announced in May 2026, have not been disclosed.
The acquisition covers MERMEC's Italian wayside signalling, electrification, telecommunications, diagnostics and analytics businesses. Signalling accounts for about 60% of the acquired revenue, diagnostics about 30% and analytics and data infrastructure about 10%, according to Siemens' investor presentation on the deal.
Bigger footprint in Italy
"Welcoming MERMEC's employees and businesses to Siemens Mobility marks an important milestone in strengthening our global rail technology portfolio," said Michael Peter, president of Siemens Mobility. He said combining the two companies' capabilities in signalling, diagnostics and asset intelligence would enhance the value delivered to customers worldwide.
The deal expands Siemens Mobility's industrial footprint in Italy, including the Ferrosud production site in Matera, and brings MERMEC's diagnostic vehicles and measurement systems into a scalable diagnostics and analytics platform with global reach.
The transaction excludes MERMEC's investments in Angelstar, Mont Saint Michel and its subsidiary Compagnie des Signaux, and CSEE DE, formerly MERMEC Deutschland, which remain with Angelo Holding.
Siemens expects the deal to add to earnings per share, before purchase price allocation, by the second year after closing. Siemens Mobility reported revenue of €12.4 billion and employed about 43,400 people in fiscal 2025.
