Sudan's Interior Minister has met Pakistan's army chief at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation on security, counterterrorism and institutional ties.

Lieutenant General (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, on Friday 6 November, according to the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The two discussed matters of mutual interest, evolving regional and global security dynamics, and ways to expand bilateral cooperation.

Focus on security and counterterrorism

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening relations in security, counterterrorism and institutional cooperation, the ISPR said. The visiting minister appreciated Pakistan's role in promoting regional peace and stability and acknowledged the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's desire to deepen its longstanding engagement with Sudan, stressing that close coordination was essential to addressing shared security challenges.

A relationship tested by war

The meeting comes as Sudan remains gripped by a civil war that began in April 2023, a conflict that has displaced millions of people and drawn in regional powers. Pakistan has consistently called for a peaceful settlement in Sudan and has backed international efforts to protect civilians and restore stability.

The visit is the latest in a series of high-level contacts between the two countries, and officials on both sides said they expected the engagement to continue through military and interior-ministry channels.
