Over 100 Killed in Drone Strike on Nyala Market

More than 100 people were killed in a drone strike on a crowded market in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on the evening of Monday 26 October 2026, according to a Sudanese rights group. The strike hit Tanqong market in the Dumaya neighbourhood, west of the city.
Emergency Lawyers, a Sudanese group tracking violence in the war, said 102 people were killed and 113 injured, many of them women and children, blamed the Sudanese Armed Forces, and called for an independent investigation. The toll has not been independently verified, and a second account gives a different picture of the casualties.
Two casualty accounts
Medecins Sans Frontieres said its supported Nyala Teaching Hospital received 36 bodies, 21 of them in civilian clothing, and treated more than 150 wounded people, many with shrapnel injuries and severe burns. The gap between the hospital figures and the rights group's toll is not yet explained: hospitals in a war zone may not receive every victim, and counts from the scene may include people who never reached a hospital. Readers should treat the 102 figure as reported by the rights group, not as a confirmed toll.
Nyala is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces, who have fought the army since April 2023. This strike is distinct from other Sudan market attacks DailyByte has covered, including the Abyei market strike and a separate drone-strike toll of 306.
