Drone strikes knock out five Sudan substations, cutting south-east power

Drone strikes on Monday 26 October 2026 hit power stations in south-east Sudan and cut electricity across four states, according to the state operator, Sudan Electricity Holding Company. Five substations were named: Singa, Al Hawata, Al Fao, Mashkour and Al-Junaid. Power was cut in Sennar, Gedaref, White Nile and Gezira states, and the operator said the damage threatened the stability of the national grid.
Blame attributed, not independently confirmed
The operator blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been fighting the army since April 2023. That attribution is reported as the operator's claim: Reuters reported it could not independently verify the operator's account, and the RSF did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Engineering and technical crews were sent to assess the damage and begin repairs. The United Nations has warned that attacks on power infrastructure threaten health and other services for millions already affected by the conflict.
What is not included
A separate 27 October report of a strike on the Al-Markhiyat substation in Omdurman is not included here: it rests on eyewitnesses only, with no official statement on responsibility at the time of reporting. This article therefore covers only the south-east substation strikes described by the state operator.
