Thailand Moves to Block Bitget Over Unlicensed Trading

**content:**
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of cryptocurrency exchange Bitget, alleging it ran an unlicensed digital-asset exchange for Thai users from 2022 to 2025, and has notified the government to block the platform from 5 December.
The complaint, announced on Thursday 5 November in the regulator's statement No. 241/2026, was lodged with the Economic Crime Suppression Division. It also names Kritsana Kritsananuwat, whom the regulator accuses of helping promote Bitget's services through Facebook and YouTube channels.
What the regulator alleges
The SEC said Bitget offered a trading system in the ordinary course of business, charged fees, ran a Thai-language website that could show values in baht, and solicited Thai users on social channels including X, Telegram and TikTok. That conduct amounts to operating a digital-asset exchange under Section 3 of the Emergency Decree on Digital Asset Businesses of 2018 without a licence, a violation of Section 26 punishable under Section 66, the regulator said.
Block from 5 December, deal in doubt
Separately, the SEC referred Bitget's website, other domains and its app to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, which will seek court orders to restrict access from 5 December 2026. Users still holding assets on the platform were told to consider acting before the cutoff. The action lands while a company linked to Bitget waits for approval to buy licensed Thai exchange GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics, a deal whose closing has already been pushed to 30 November. The complaint is an allegation, not a finding: police will investigate before prosecutors decide whether to bring charges, and Bitget has not publicly commented.
