Trump Orders DOJ Probe of Democrats Over Threats

President Donald Trump has ordered the US Justice Department to investigate Democrats he accuses of threatening administration officials with impeachment and Republican donors with imprisonment, in a Truth Social post on Saturday 7 November. He described the alleged conduct as a "criminal act" and "extortion at the highest level", but provided no evidence.
Trump wrote that Democrats were "going around threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so". He said Attorney General Todd Blanche and other officials had committed no impeachable acts, and claimed Democrats had sent "threatening letters to many people, all innocent".
The only Democrat Trump named was Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, who suggested last month that Congress should investigate people who enabled the president's policies. Since Election Day, two House Democrats — Representatives Hank Johnson of Georgia and Deborah Ross of North Carolina — have publicly said they would support impeaching Blanche.
No formal investigation announced
The Justice Department has not announced whether it will open a formal investigation, and it did not immediately comment on the president's post. It remains unclear what criminal statutes, if any, prosecutors would examine.
The directive came four days after Democrats won control of both the House and the Senate in the 3 November midterm elections. The new Congress does not convene until January 2027, when the Democratic majorities take office.
