Trump Warns Iraq PM: US Will Strike Iran-Backing Factions

US President Donald Trump has warned Iraq's prime minister that Washington would strike Iraq's armed factions and their leaders if they join any renewed war in support of Iran, according to sources cited by Shafaq News.
The warning was reportedly delivered in a phone call on 5 November between Mr Trump and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. The sources said Mr Trump also offered full American support for bringing all weapons in Iraq under state control, but warned that any further delay or backtracking would lead Washington to reconsider its backing for Mr al-Zaidi and his government.
Neither the White House nor the prime minister's office has publicly disclosed those details of the call. Mr al-Zaidi told Mr Trump during the conversation that Iraq would not allow its territory to be used to attack neighbouring countries, the sources said.
Saudi-owned Al Hadath separately reported that Washington had told Baghdad it would use force against factions that back Iran in any future conflict. The reports come as the United States weighs whether to resume military operations against Iran after the war that began in February.
US special envoy Tom Barrack met Mr al-Zaidi in Baghdad on Thursday, along with Supreme Judicial Council President Faiq Zaidan and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, as Washington pressed the Iraqi government on the weapons question.
Mr al-Zaidi's plan sets 30 June 2027 as the deadline for bringing all weapons under state control. Two of the most powerful armed groups, Kataib Hezbollah and Harakat al-Nujaba, have refused to disarm, leaving the government facing a decisive test over whether it can enforce its authority before any new regional confrontation begins.
