Two Arrested in Blackwood Nursery Neglect Probe

By The Daily Byte ·09 Nov 2026 ·2 min read
Bridge Street in Blackwood, Caerphilly, south Wales

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after health and safety concerns were raised about a nursery in Blackwood, south Wales. Gwent Police said a 49-year-old man from Cardiff and a 29-year-old woman from the Caerphilly area were arrested as part of the investigation into Greenfields Nursery on Bridge Street.

The force said both people have since been released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue. No one has been charged, and the arrests are on suspicion only. Police have asked people not to speculate on social media while the investigation is ongoing.

The investigation began after Caerphilly County Borough Council passed on concerns about health and safety at the nursery on Tuesday 3 November. Officers have been carrying out enquiries at the premises, and residents have been told to expect an increased police presence in the area.

Care Inspectorate Wales, the regulator for childcare in Wales, said it first suspended the nursery's registration on 20 October. It has since been instructed by the nursery's provider to cancel the registration, and the nursery is now closed.

Detective Inspector Gavin Wilkes, of Gwent Police, said the force understands that allegations of this nature are upsetting, and that officers are working with partner agencies on what he described as a thorough investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log reference 2600359497.

Everywhere News reported the arrests on 6 November, with the investigation continuing into the weekend.
