Two Dorset men jailed over money laundering

Two men from Dorset have been jailed after laundering more than £240,000 of criminal money over a two-year period.
Shane David Manny Chapman, 36, of Verwood, and Christopher James Mills, 37, of Ringwood, were sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, 5 November, after both pleaded guilty to laundering criminal property.
Chapman was jailed for three years and four months for laundering £152,378 between January 2022 and February 2024. Mills was sentenced to two years and 10 months for laundering £88,737 over the same period.
Police financial investigation
The pair were arrested in February 2024 on suspicion of money laundering, contrary to section 327 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, after Dorset Police's Serious Organised Crime Team investigated their finances. Further enquiries led to charges being brought against both men.
As well as the prison sentences, the court granted Serious Crime Prevention Orders against both defendants, which will come into effect when they are released and are designed to restrict and disrupt future criminal activity.
Detective Constable Ade Stocker, of the Serious Organised Crime Team, said money laundering helped organised criminals disguise the origins of illegally obtained funds and allowed wider criminal activity to continue. He said the investigation formed part of the force's work to disrupt people handling criminal property and profiting from crime.
