UAE Coast Guard Rescues 22 Crew from Burning Ship

The United Arab Emirates Coast Guard has rescued all 22 crew members from a cargo ship that caught fire in the Gulf of Oman, the UAE National Guard said on Sunday. Everyone on board survived and was reported to be in a stable condition.
According to Marine Insight, the ship's crew reported the fire and specialist teams were sent out at once to locate the vessel and bring the crew to safety. The rescued sailors, all Arab nationals, were given first aid on the spot before being handed over to the relevant authorities.
The National Guard did not name the ship or its flag, and it did not say what caused the fire or how badly the vessel was damaged. The Media Line likewise reported that the Coast Guard responded to a distress call, evacuated the crew and provided emergency medical help.
The rescue took place in waters that have seen a run of shipping incidents in recent days. Britain's maritime agency, UKMTO, had received a report on Saturday of an incident involving a bulk carrier and military forces in the Gulf of Oman, east of Khor Fakkan in the UAE, but it is not clear whether that incident is linked to the fire.
Officials have also not linked the rescued vessel to the St Kitts-flagged cargo ship M/V Huda, which United States forces said they disabled in the same gulf on Saturday after it tried to breach the American naval blockade of Iran. No government has said the two vessels are the same ship, and the cause of the fire remains unconfirmed.
