UK Bank Holidays 2027: Full List of Dates

England and Wales have eight bank holidays in 2027, starting with New Year's Day on Friday 1 January and ending with Boxing Day on Tuesday 28 December. Scotland has nine and Northern Ireland has ten, because each nation keeps its own list. The dates below are taken from the official GOV.UK bank holiday calendar.
England and Wales: the eight dates
The eight bank holidays in England and Wales in 2027 are: New Year's Day on Friday 1 January; Good Friday on Friday 26 March; Easter Monday on Monday 29 March; the Early May bank holiday on Monday 3 May; the Spring bank holiday on Monday 31 May; the Summer bank holiday on Monday 30 August; Christmas Day on Monday 27 December, a substitute day; and Boxing Day on Tuesday 28 December, also a substitute day. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027.
Scotland and Northern Ireland differ
Scotland has nine bank holidays in 2027. It adds 2 January, observed on Monday 4 January as a substitute day, and St Andrew's Day on Tuesday 30 November, and its summer bank holiday falls earlier, on Monday 2 August. Scotland does not have Easter Monday. Northern Ireland has ten, adding St Patrick's Day on Wednesday 17 March and Battle of the Boyne on Monday 12 July.
Why Christmas moves in 2027
Christmas Day 2027 falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday, so the days off move to the next working days: Monday 27 December for Christmas Day and Tuesday 28 December for Boxing Day. These substitute days keep the total number of holidays the same. Extra bank holidays can occasionally be announced for national events, so check GOV.UK before booking travel or requesting leave.
