UK clocks go back today: an extra hour, darker evenings

British Summer Time ends on Sunday 25 October 2026. UK clocks go back by one hour, from 2am BST to 1am GMT, so Sunday is a 25-hour day and the hour between 1am and 2am happens twice.
That means an extra hour in bed for most people, but evenings get darker earlier. In London, for example, sunset moves from about 5.48pm on Saturday to about 4.46pm on Sunday, while sunrise moves earlier, from about 7.39am to about 6.41am.
The change happens overnight from Saturday into Sunday, a slot chosen to minimise disruption to schools and businesses. Anyone travelling or working overnight should take care, because the repeated hour can confuse timetables and shift patterns.
After the change, the UK is on GMT. That also changes time conversions for calls abroad: for example, London is 5 hours 30 minutes behind India, so a 9am London call becomes 2.30pm in India.
