A woman who smeared faeces into her husband's mouth during a violent row at their home in the New Forest has been given a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Alison Moore, 63, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Southampton Crown Court. The most serious incident took place on 20 August at the couple's farmhouse in Damerham, near the New Forest National Park in Hampshire.

Prosecutor Andrew Coley told the court the couple had spent the afternoon drinking before arguing about when to leave a pub. Moore accused her husband, Rob Moore, of not standing up for her and called him boring. Back at home, she wrestled him onto their bed and told him: "You talk so much s*, I'm going to make you eat it." She then smeared her own faeces into his mouth.

Mr Moore broke free and rushed to the bathroom to clean out his mouth. Police were called to the property and Moore was arrested, but she gave no comment in her police interview.

The court heard the attack was part of a campaign of violence against her husband. Three days earlier, Moore had struck him across the back with a broom handle and punched him in the face while wearing a ring, leaving cuts and bruising.

Judge Gary Lucie said the use of faeces was a gratuitous degradation of the victim and described Mr Moore's statement as magnanimous. The court also heard Moore had previous convictions, including driving with excess alcohol and assault by beating.

Moore had spent three weeks on remand at HMP Bronzefield and was also given 100 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation activity requirement. Her husband attended the hearing and the couple left the court building together.
