Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man found shot in a parked car in Woolwich died in hospital almost two weeks after the attack.

Police were called to reports of shots being fired in Frances Street, Woolwich, at 8.09pm on Thursday, 22 October. Officers found a 32-year-old man in a parked car with a gunshot wound. The man, who can now be named as Terry Dearsley, died on Wednesday, 4 November.

The Metropolitan Police announced on Friday, 6 November, that its Specialist Crime Command had formally converted the inquiry into a murder investigation. Mr Dearsley's family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

Man already charged

Paul Rosser-Davies, 48, of Brewhouse Road, Greenwich, was charged on Sunday, 1 November, with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. The charges were brought while Mr Dearsley was still alive in hospital.

Rosser-Davies appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday, 2 November, and was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday, 30 November, when prosecutors are expected to amend the charges to reflect the murder investigation.

Police appeal for witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley of the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Command had earlier described the shooting as a "senseless act of violence" and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Metropolitan Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
