ASML Shares Rebound as European Chip Stocks Recover

ASML shares bounced back on Friday 6 November as European semiconductor stocks recovered part of the heavy losses suffered the day before, when fears over possible regulation of artificial intelligence infrastructure sent chip shares tumbling.

ASML closed 2.43% higher at €1,280.40 on Euronext Amsterdam, recovering about a third of its 5 November fall, when it had closed 6.55% lower. The company's US-listed shares rose 5.02% to close at $1,424.75, having traded as high as $1,447.49 during the session.

The recovery was broad across the European chip sector. Four of the five European semiconductor stocks tracked closed higher: ASM International gained 2.17%, BE Semiconductor rose 2.20% and STMicroelectronics added 1.17%, while Infineon was little changed. Even so, ASML remained 9.37% below its 30 October close, showing how much ground was lost in the sell-off.

In the United States, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 4.2% on Friday, one day after its steepest single-day fall since April 2025, according to Reuters. The turnaround followed Thursday's rout, which was driven by concern that post-election regulation of AI infrastructure could slow data-centre construction, and was helped by a stronger-than-expected October US jobs report.

ASML, the Dutch company whose lithography machines are used to make advanced computer chips, reported third-quarter 2026 net sales of €11.7 billion and net profit of €5.0 billion on 14 October. The company has said its planned delivery capacity for 2027 and 2028 will not fully cover customer demand, and it is reviewing a further expansion of capacity.
