Shell shares go ex-dividend on 12 November

Shell shares will trade ex-dividend on Thursday 12 November, when buyers of the London-listed stock stop qualifying for the company's third-quarter interim dividend. The board announced the payout on 29 October, alongside Shell's third-quarter results.
The dividend is US$0.3906 per ordinary share, with holders of Shell's American Depositary Shares receiving US$0.7812 per ADS, each ADS representing two ordinary shares. Shareholders can elect to receive the payout in US dollars, euros or pounds sterling.
The timetable sets the ex-dividend date for ordinary shares at 12 November and for ADSs at 13 November, with the record date on 13 November. The closing date for currency elections is 11:00am GMT on 27 November, the sterling and euro equivalent amounts will be announced on 7 December, and payment is due on 21 December.
Investors who buy Shell ordinary shares on or after 12 November will not receive this quarter's dividend; only shareholders on the register at the record date qualify. The shares typically adjust lower by roughly the dividend amount on the ex-dividend date, all else being equal.
12 November is a busy date for London-listed energy payouts: BP shares also trade ex-dividend that day. Shell is one of the largest constituents of the FTSE 100, so the payout timetable is closely watched by UK income investors and funds tracking the index.
