Athletic Club thrash Getafe 4-0 at San Mames

Athletic Club returned to winning ways in LaLiga by thrashing struggling Getafe 4-0 at San Mames on Sunday, with Alex Berenguer involved in all four goals. The win condemned Getafe to their first sequence of six straight top-flight away losses since April 2016.
Berenguer runs the game
Getafe, fresh from a devastating 5-2 midweek loss to Swiss side Lugano, could have struck first within five minutes, but Ramon Terrats' shot from the edge of the box was too close to Unai Simon. Athletic soon clicked into gear and forged ahead in the 17th minute when Berenguer took a free-kick to the left of the box, driving in a shot that evaded everyone and nestled in at the far post. It was only Athletic's third first-half goal of the campaign.
A midfield giveaway then allowed Berenguer to send Inaki Williams through with a defence-splitting pass, and the former Ghana international finished calmly past David Soria in the 35th minute. Athletic remained firmly on top after the interval, and sealed the points in the 70th minute when Berenguer swung in a corner that Aitor Paredes headed towards goal, with a deflection off Jean Ives Valou taking the ball past a helpless Soria. Berenguer completed his set of assists in the 88th minute when Yuri Berchiche finished with a left-footed shot from outside the box.
Getafe's miserable evening
Getafe's night worsened when Mario Martin saw a straight red card in the 86th minute, after Johan Mojica had already been forced off injured. Athletic netted multiple goals for only the second time in nine LaLiga home outings, and controlled 62 percent of possession with 11 shots to Getafe's seven.
