Hull City hold Brentford 1-1 at the MKM Stadium

Hull City held Brentford to a 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium on Sunday, withstanding heavy late pressure to claim a valuable Premier League point. Oli McBurnie gave the hosts a first-half lead before Dango Ouattara equalised for the visitors.
McBurnie breaks the deadlock
Hull enjoyed the better of the first half, and their dominance told when McBurnie stepped up to score his first goal of the season. There was a quick VAR check over whether Brentford's Aaron Hickey should have seen red rather than yellow for the incident, but the on-field decision stood and McBurnie converted. Semi Ajayi was at the heart of the Hull defence, making countless blocks and interceptions as the hosts controlled the opening period.
Brentford hit back
The visitors began the second half slowly, but a double substitution on 62 minutes made an immediate impact. Mikkel Damsgaard and Jaidon Anthony came on, and within a minute Brentford were level: after pinball in the box following a cross, Igor Thiago managed to get the ball to Ouattara, who could not miss from a yard out for his first goal of the campaign.
Brentford continued on top for the remaining 25 minutes, leaving the home fans holding their breath, but Hull held on. Ajayi's defensive contribution faded as the 90 minutes wore on, yet he remained a large part of why Hull kept their point, and he was named player of the match. The draw extends Hull's run of hard-earned home points, while Brentford will rue their slow start after dominating the closing stages without finding a winner.
