Berwick Bank wind deal to support 465 UK jobs

Aberdeen-based Seaway7 has been chosen as preferred supplier for a major package of work on SSE Renewables' Berwick Bank B offshore wind project, in an agreement expected to support 465 jobs across the United Kingdom, including 400 in Scotland. The company, part of the Subsea7 group, would handle engineering, procurement, construction and installation for around 90 fixed-bottom turbine foundations and the subsea cables linking the turbines together.
The headline figure breaks down into about 160 direct roles with Seaway7, led from its Aberdeen base, around 105 indirect roles in the United Kingdom supply chain, and a further 200 direct and indirect roles linked to marshalling turbine foundations at a Scottish port that has yet to be announced. SSE said the deal takes the total number of jobs created or supported through its Berwick Bank B commitments so far to around 600 across the UK, including more than 500 in Scotland.
What still has to happen before work starts
The appointment is not yet a final contract. It remains subject to a final contract award and a final investment decision by SSE, expected in late 2027. If approved, preparatory offshore work could begin in 2028, with foundation and cable installation running from 2029 to 2031. Berwick Bank B is a 1.4-gigawatt project in the outer Firth of Forth, around 38 kilometres off the Scottish Borders coast, within the wider 4.1-gigawatt Berwick Bank development, consented in July 2025 with a 20-year Contract for Difference secured in January 2026.
For jobseekers, this signals future demand for offshore wind skills, not vacancies open now. Anyone interested should watch Seaway7 and SSE careers pages as the project moves towards its final investment decision.
