Brighton beat 10-man Brentford 2-0 at the Amex

Brighton beat 10-man Brentford 2-0 at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, with Diego Gomez and a Pascal Gross penalty doing the damage in the first half.
Gomez fired the hosts ahead in the 15th minute, latching on to a loose ball on the edge of the area and striking it cleanly into the far top corner. It was a fine finish from the Paraguayan midfielder and it set the tone for a dominant first-half display from Fabian Hurzeler's side.
Brentford's task became much harder in the 23rd minute, when striker Igor Thiago was sent off. The visitors were reduced to 10 men and struggled to contain Brighton, who doubled their lead three minutes before the break.
The second goal came from the penalty spot, after Keane Lewis-Potter was judged to have tugged Luka Vuskovic to the ground in the area. Gross stepped up and drove his spot-kick straight into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher with no chance.
Brentford regrouped after the interval and avoided further damage, but they rarely threatened a comeback against a Brighton side that controlled the second half. The win gives Brighton a welcome three points heading into the international break, while Brentford will reflect on a costly red card that changed the shape of the afternoon.
