Wimborne stun Crawley 2-0 in FA Cup shock

Seventh-tier Wimborne Town produced the biggest shock of the FA Cup first round on Sunday, beating League Two side Crawley Town 2-0 at the Cuthbury in Dorset.

The Southern Premier League part-timers, who sit 57 places below Crawley in the football pyramid, took the lead after only nine minutes. Property surveyor Yang Seung-woo curled a superb strike from just inside the penalty area into the top corner after being set up by Angel Diaz.

Crawley, the bottom side in the English Football League, pushed for an equaliser and came close when Kai Jennings flashed a low shot narrowly wide and Jonny Russell headed tamely into the arms of home goalkeeper Cam Plain. Interim manager Kevin Blackwell made a triple change at half-time, and Charlie Barker fired inches wide for the visitors.

Wimborne sealed the win 11 minutes from time with a large slice of luck. Jackson King's shot struck striker Cameron Munn and the ball squirmed beyond goalkeeper Vito Mannone to make it 2-0.

It is the second season in a row that Crawley have been knocked out of the FA Cup by non-League opponents, after losing to Boreham Wood last season. Wimborne, meanwhile, go into the hat for the second-round draw on Monday.
