British Steel opens 40-plus 2027 apprentice roles

British Steel has opened applications for more than 40 apprenticeships and graduate roles for its 2027 intake, offering new routes into steelmaking careers at Scunthorpe, Teesside and Skinningrove. The roles will start in early September 2027, and applications are now welcome through the company's official vacancies page.
40 apprenticeships across three sites
The apprenticeship intake includes 12 electrical and 12 mechanical apprenticeships at Scunthorpe, plus eight electrical and eight mechanical apprenticeships at the Northern Mills sites in Teesside and Skinningrove. The programme combines hands-on experience with fully funded training and nationally recognised qualifications, allowing apprentices to earn while they learn. Successful candidates will begin with specialist training before moving into operational areas alongside experienced colleagues.
Graduate roles also open
Alongside the apprenticeships, British Steel is recruiting graduates in manufacturing operations, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and materials engineering covering quality and process. Further graduate opportunities in other business functions are expected to be released in the coming weeks. The company says the intake builds on its relaunched graduate programme, which saw 16 graduates join in September, the first since 2022.
Who can apply, and when
Apprenticeship applicants will need a minimum of three GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including Maths, English and Science, together with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. The package includes 35 days' holiday including bank holidays, a company pension, a health cash plan and an employee assistance programme. Apprenticeship applications close on 8 March 2027, while graduate applications close on 26 February 2027 - both deadlines remain open. Apply via British Steel's official vacancies page, linked from the source above.
