Bylines Network hiring for three citizen journalism roles

Bylines Network, the UK-wide grassroots network behind ten citizen journalism titles, is recruiting for three roles to help shape its future. The organisation, powered by thousands of contributors and hundreds of volunteers alongside a small staff team, is looking for a Senior Administrator, a Technical Assistant and a Learning Manager. It describes journalism as an act of public good — independent, progressive and fact-based — and says it wants people with practical skills, clear thinking and a commitment to helping others succeed.
The three roles and what they pay
The Senior Administrator will help keep the Local News Fund Infrastructure project on track, coordinating records, meetings, partner relationships, financial administration and reporting. It is 35 hours a week at £29,000 a year pro rata, fixed term to 22 March 2027. The Technical Assistant, at 21 hours a week, will support digital publishing tools — feeds, apps, websites, newsletters and social channels — on £25,487 full-time equivalent, or £15,292.20 pro rata, also to 22 March 2027. The Learning Manager will bring the new Citizen Journalism Academy to life, working 21 hours a week at £27,849 full-time equivalent to the end of March 2027.
How to apply before 13 November
Applications close on Friday 13 November 2026, and the network says it will consider applications as they arrive and may appoint before the deadline, so early applications are advised. Applicants should email a CV and covering note explaining their interest, approach, hopes for the role and relevant skills, plus details of two referees. The roles are also open on a freelance basis, and the network says it is a Disability Confident employer offering video or audio applications as an alternative to a written one.
