Thame Town Council is seeking a part-time Finance Assistant to handle finance administration for the Oxfordshire town council. The role is new, created because of an expanding workload, and the council describes it as critical to the smooth running of its operations. The successful candidate will report to the Corporate Services Manager and Responsible Finance Officer, working with staff and councillors on all aspects of town council finance administration.

Hours, pay and pension

The post is 15 hours a week, with flexible hours between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The full-time salary is £29,071 at Grade 11, giving a pro-rata salary of £11,786, plus membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. The council also offers 99 hours of annual leave, including hours allocated for bank holidays.

How to apply

Applicants need excellent communication, financial and administrative skills, and an application pack is available from the council's vacancies page or by email. Applications must be returned by 10am on Friday 20 November 2026, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews between 25 and 27 November 2026. Anyone with questions about the role is asked to contact Jane Webster at the council.

Thame Town Council says the role is an exciting and challenging opportunity for someone who enjoys ownership of finance work in a small local authority. The post is advertised on the council's own website, where the full job description and person specification are published alongside the application form. Apply via the council's own vacancies page; no payment is asked for and no agent is involved.
