Growth sectors on show

More than 250 young people secured job opportunities on the day at Cornwall's first Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair, the government has announced. Over 500 young people attended the event, hosted at the Eden Project, to explore jobs, apprenticeships, training and work experience with some of the region's largest businesses.

Employers and vacancies on the day reflected growing investment in Cornwall's clean energy, engineering and critical minerals sectors. Many attendees also received advice on searching for jobs, completing applications and preparing for interviews, while workshops helped them make the most of the day. One session saw Google help jobseekers understand how to use artificial intelligence to improve their CVs, prepare for interviews and plan their career goals.

Part of a national programme

The fair is part of the government's wider youth employment support package, backed by £2.5 billion of investment to help young people build a career path. The Youth Guarantee aims to give every young person the chance to earn or learn, and its jobs fairs have now taken place across the country from Blackpool, Glasgow and Cardiff to Leeds. According to the government, those events have already resulted in over 1,000 young people moving into jobs, work experience or training opportunities, and the support package will support almost one million young people and create 500,000 opportunities. At least one Youth Guarantee jobs fair will be held in every region of Great Britain, giving young people direct access to opportunities near them.
