Elgin Academy in Moray was evacuated on the morning of Wednesday 4 November 2026 after a suspicious envelope received through the mail was reported by school staff. Police Scotland received the report at around 11.05am, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service also attended.

Pupils were sent home for the rest of the day and school transport was arranged, while the package was isolated in a toilet block and emergency procedures were followed. A specialist fire service team then opened and checked the envelope and found nothing of danger inside, and the item was deemed safe.

No threat to the wider public

Police Scotland said there was no threat to the wider public and that the incident was contained to one school. The local area commander for Moray, Chief Inspector Andy Meikleham, described it as a false call with good intent, while enquiries continue to trace the origin of the envelope.

Moray Council said Elgin Academy and all Moray schools would open as normal on Thursday 5 November, and that any pupils who were concerned should speak to their guidance teacher. The reports do not describe the incident as a bomb threat, and no such claim is made here.
