FTSE Week Ahead: Vodafone, Rolls-Royce, Taylor Wimpey

A busy week of company results faces the FTSE 100 as London's blue-chip index tries to steady itself after a sharp sell-off. The index fell from a high of 10,945 on Thursday to around 10,583, as a global technology rout spread from Wall Street to Europe.
Vodafone opens the run on Tuesday with its half-year results. The telecoms group has been under pressure in recent weeks, its shares falling from 132.20p in September to around 115p. Investors will want evidence that its turnaround is starting to pay off in its core UK and German markets, after job cuts, the completed merger with Three UK, and divestments in Spain and Italy. Its most recent quarter showed revenue up 9.7 percent to €10.3 billion, helped by service revenue and the Three UK business.
Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey follows on Wednesday with a trading statement. The shares have dropped sharply in recent months and sit around 30 percent below their highest point this year, as high borrowing costs and the Iran conflict dashed hopes of cheaper mortgages.
Rolls-Royce reports on Thursday. The engine maker has also sold off, from a high of 1,586p in August to around 1,241p, and its trading update will be judged against targets for operating profit of between £4.7 billion and £4.9 billion.
The week also brings results from Burberry, B&M, 3i Group and Land Securities, while UK third-quarter GDP figures are released on Thursday. After a week in which the Nasdaq entered correction territory, traders will be watching whether London's heavyweights can give the market a reason to stabilise.
