Gold holds above $4,000 at $4,072 on Sunday

Gold held above $4,000 an ounce on Sunday 8 November, with the spot price at $4,072.10, according to Gold Price Tracker. That was $38.57, or 0.94%, below the previous session's close of $4,110.67, but it kept the metal firmly above the $4,000 level it has defended through a volatile autumn.
Weekend quotes are the latest available prices rather than live trading, because bullion markets are closed on Sunday. Even so, the picture is consistent across the main price trackers: gold has eased back from its recent highs without giving up the $4,000 mark, which has become the key level traders are watching.
In London, 24-carat gold was £102.17 a gram on Sunday morning, or £3,178 an ounce, Markets Host reported. The UK price is the sterling equivalent of the dollar spot rate, so it moves with both the gold price and the pound.
In Pakistan, the benchmark rate was unchanged. The Rawalpindi-Islamabad sarafa market quoted 24-carat gold at Rs425,100 a tola, or Rs364,455 per 10 grams, the same as the previous day's close, with international spot gold near $4,066 at the time that rate was set.
Gold has had a remarkable year, driven by central-bank buying, investor demand for a hedge against inflation and geopolitical risk, and expectations around interest rates. Prices move quickly and can fall as well as rise, so a single day's quote is a snapshot, not a forecast. The next test comes when full trading resumes on Monday, when traders will weigh fresh US inflation data due on Tuesday.
